WINNERS ANNOUNCED!

The GIA is delighted to confirm that the following prizes were awarded at the prize night;

1st: 44 - ZM Architecture
2nd: 19 - Nicholas Roberts, Manifest Architecture
3rd: 24 - Nicholas Ecob
Honourable Mention: 73 - Superfusionlab

Thanks to all who entered and congratulations to the winners. We appreciate the journeys some of the finalists had to make on the prize night, this helped to make it a really good night.

The GIA would also like to thank the Community Councils for their positive engagement and support throughout the process and we would like to wish them luck with the project from here on in. Hopefully we can all meet again for the first public performance in the new arena!

SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED

The Glasgow Institute of Architects, in association with local Community Councils, is pleased to announce that the following submissions have been shortlisted for the Queens park Arena Design Competition.

19 – Nicholas Roberts, Manifest Architecture, based in Queens Park, Glasgow
24 – Nicholas Ecob, based in London
29 – Martin Jarvie and Judy Cheung, based in Glasgow
44 – ZM architecture, based in Glasgow
70 – BFLS, based in London

In addition to the five shortlisted entries, the following submissions have been selected for inclusion in the exhibition:

5 – Lucid Architecture, a Glasgow based practice.
6 – GCA Architecture and Design, a Coatbridge based practice.
10 – Dress for the Weather, a Glasgow based practice.
20 – Martin Baillie and Colin Davies, Architects based in Kirkintilloch.
73 – Superfusionlab, a London based practice.

The exhibition will be on display in the Glasshouse, Queen’s Park as part of the Southside Festival on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd May. Members of the public will be encouraged to contribute their views through a questionnaire.

The project to create a multi-purpose performance space on the former bandstand site in Queen’s Park, Langside, Glasgow, came about through community discussion and the Scottish Government’s decision to support a few pilot projects, of which this is one. It has received Scottish Government pump-priming funding towards the estimated project cost. It is being led by a steering group from four Community Councils - Crosshill/Govanhill, Langside, Battlefield and Camphill, Mt Florida and Shawlands and Strathbungo. The project is also being supported by Glasgow City Council.

The Judging Panel was chaired by Martin McKay, Past President GIA and comprised:
Claire Charlwood and Scott Mackay representing the Community Councils. Prof Gerry Grams, Glasgow City Council Design Advisor, Katrina Brown of arts organisation, The Common Guild and Martin Docherty of GIA Architecture People and Places Committee.

The GIA would like to thank all those who entered the competition. The quality of the entries was of a very high standard. There will be further details of the prize night, scheduled for 1st June, issued shortly.

Site visit and community design workshop

Thanks to everyone who turned up today, and thanks to the Community Council for their hospitality. As we noted today we would like to have everyones entry uploaded onto the website as quickly as possible, therefore it would be helpful if you could email us your entries as a jpg to the hotmail account as noted in the Q&A section of this website. This is not essential, but if you do, we will still require your submission to be mounted on two A3 foam boards and submitted by the deadline.
